VNAT strengthens tourism promotion in Cambodia

(TITC) - On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relation between Viet Nam and Cambodia, on 29 August 2017, Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) in coordination with Cambodian Ministry of Tourism and Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia organized Viet Nam Tourism Roadshow in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to enhance visitor exchange and destination connection between the two countries.

The program had the attendances of Mr. Ha Van Sieu, Vice Chairman of VNAT; Mr. Nguyen Bao, Vietnamese Trade Counsellor to Cambodia; Mr. Thong Khon, Cambodia Minister of Tourism; Mr. In Thoeun, Director General of Tourism Development and International Cooperation Department (under Cambodia Ministry of Tourism); representatives of VNAT, Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, Cambodia Ministry of Tourism; and tourism enterprises, tour operators, hotels, associations and press.

Speaking to open the Viet Nam Tourism Roadshow, Vice Chairman Ha Van Sieu emphasized Viet Nam and Cambodia has the good, friendship, comprehensive cooperation relation, particular in term of tourism. In addition, Viet Nam and Cambodia have worked closely in various regional forums such as Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) Cooperation, Ayeyarwady - Chao Phraya - Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), Four Nations - One destination (CLMV), etc. These are the important basis to promote tourism cooperation between the two countries over the years and in the coming time.

Cambodia is among the top 15 source markets of Viet Nam tourism. In 2016, the visitor exchange between Viet Nam and Cambodia reached over 1.17 million, including nearly 212,000 Cambodian visitor arrivals to Viet Nam and nearly 960,000 Vietnamese visitor arrivals to Cambodia. In the first seven months of 2017, Viet Nam received over 131,000 Cambodian visitor arrivals, a 24% increase over the same period last year. In addition, there are the large number of visitors from third countries such as European and American countries, Australia, Japan, etc to Cambodia and Viet Nam according to the itinerary connecting destinations of the two countries.

At the program, Mr. Le Tuan Anh, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Department (under VNAT) informed about destinations, new tourism products and tourism development policy of Viet Nam in recent years.

Overview of Viet Nam Tourism Roadshow in Cambodia 2017

On behalf of Cambodia Ministry of Tourism, Minister Thong Khon highly appreciated the close tourism cooperation between Cambodia and Viet Nam. Cambodia Ministry of Tourism plans to expand the caravan tour program in 2018, which will begin from some Cambodian border provinces to Viet Nam. The program is expected to promote the visitor exchange between Viet Nam – Cambodia. On this occasion, Cambodia also sent an invitation to Viet Nam to attend the first Cambodia Travel Mart (CTM) held in Siem Reap Province from 17 to 19 November 2017.

Also in the framework of the program, enterprises of Viet Nam and Cambodia introduced their tourism products, tours and agreed to strengthen cooperation and connection in the coming time.
