Update: May 15, 2013
In the city of Volgograd in southwest Russia, activities in the framework of the "Vietnamese cultural festival" on May 11 held by the Overseas Vietnamese Association in the province of Volgograd in collaboration with other Overseas Vietnamese Associations in the country, were a great success. This is a cultural focal point ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to Russia.

The Vietnamese cultural festival in Volgograd was organized on a monumental scale at the central theatre of the city with two main contents of exhibition and art performance.

In the afternoon of the day, more than 1,000 people visited the stalls introducing Vietnam in the fields of culture, history, President Ho Chi Minh, tourism, economy and folk games. Visitors from Russia and other nations not only visited, but they also enjoyed the typical cuisine of Vietnam, participated in folk games, were presented calligraphy works and introduced to the historical and cultural traditions of Vietnam in the old time and the development of the country and people of Vietnam today.

The art performance attracted more than 2,000 attendees. The items, including songs, dance, martial arts and fashion shows, were prepared carefully.

The program introduced Vietnam from the origin of the dragon and fairy, as well as cultural features of regions in the S-shaped country. Friends from Russia, South Korea and Nigeria also join the art performance, creating a unique cultural exchange.

This was the second time the Vietnamese cultural festival has been held in the city of Volgograd, where about 500 Vietnamese people are living and about 300 students studying many different subjects. This year, in addition to introducing the culture, history, land and people of Vietnam, the festival also aims to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Stalingrad victory, to be grateful to the Soviet Red Army soldiers who died in the Great Patriotic war.

At the same time, the activity is also a cultural landmark ahead of the visit of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung to Russia from May 12-15, contributing to consolidating and strengthening the friendship and traditional relationship between the two countries and peoples in the spirit of established comprehensive strategic partnership.
