Visit Viet Nam Year 2016 – Phu Quoc - Mekong River Delta kicks off

(TITC) – On 22 February 2016, in Kien Giang Province, the opening ceremony of Visit Viet Nam Year 2016 and ceremony to receive certificate recognizing U Minh Thuong National Park as the Ramsar site took place.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Huynh Vinh Ai emphasized that Kien Giang, endowed with fascinating landscapes and unique cultural values, was selected as the host of Visit Viet Nam Year 2016 – Phu Quoc - Mekong River Delta under the theme “Exploring Southern Land”. The successful organization of this important event is expected to promote tourism potentials and products of Kien Giang as well as other localities in the Mekong Delta and boost luring tourists.

 

On this occasion, Kien Giang honorably received certificate recognizing U Minh Thuong National Park as the 8th Ramsar site of Viet Nam and the 2,228th one of the world. U Minh Thuong National Park is one of the two important climax peat swamp forests in Viet Nam and was recognized as one of the three highest priority sites for wetland conservation in the Mekong Delta. This important event highlighted Kien Giang’s efforts in conserving the wetlands, contributing to environmental education, promoting ecotourism development in Kien Giang and the Mekong Delta.
