Vietnamese culture highlighted in Germany
Update: Jul 15, 2013
The Vietnamese community in the German city of Potsdam has been given the chance to host the local Asian Culture Festival for the first time in August.

At a press briefing on July 12, the organising board said the decision was prompted by the fact that the Vietnamese community is the third largest foreign community in Brandenburg State and has made many contributions to the multi-ethnic culture in Germany in general and in Potsdam in particular.

The Thang Long Business Association, an organisation of Vietnamese businesspeople in Potsdam, will work together with the Friends of Friendship Island Association (Freunde der Freundschaftsinsel e.V) to organise the festival on the popular Friendship Island in Potsdam on August 3.

The Director of Thang Long Business Association, Nguyen Quoc Hung, who is the head of the organising board said the festival would be a good chance for Vietnam to introduce the country's people, landscape, and culture to international friends.

The festival, with the slogan of "Fire and Water" will depict Vietnamese culture through music and dance, martial arts performances, an Ao dai (traditional long dress) fashion show and a food festival.

A two-week exhibition featuring Zen poetries under Ly and Tran dynasties and Vietnam's handicrafts and souvenirs will also be held on this occasion.

Many businesses committed a total of 10,000 EUR in donations to the event.
