Northeastern ethnic group cultural, sports and tourism festival opens

The ninth Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival of ethnic groups in the Northeastern region, themed ‘Northeast – convergence, solidarity and development’, officially kicked off with a large-scale arts programme on September 10 in Bac Kan City, Bac Kan Province.

The three-part programme featured more than 300 actors, actresses and artisans from ten provinces in the region including - Bac Kan, Phu Tho, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh and Vinh Phuc.

The unique performances highlighted the strengths, traditional festivals as well as diverse cultural and artistic characteristics of the ethnic people in the Northeastern region.

A dazzling fireworks display concluded the opening ceremony for the ninth Northeastern region Culture, Sports and Tourism Festival.

The three-day festival features a wide variety of cultural activities, including mass art performances, traditional ethnic fashion shows and exhibitions on cultural and tourism products as well as cultural heritages in the region.

Additionally, sports and tourism activities will also be held including as a small festival introducing specialities of the regional ethnic minority groups, folk games as well as stick-pushing and football competitions.

The organising board will also hold a seminar promoting the co-operation among provinces for the development of the tourism industry in the region.

The annual festival aims to preserve and promote the cultural identities of northeastern ethnic minority groups as well as enhance unity among people in the region and contribute to the spiritual life of local residents.

The event also offers an opportunity for the regional localities to introduce their potentials in cultural, sports and tourism development, contributing to socio-economic development in the region.
